Birdwatching

The observation of seabirds is possible in several parts of the island. Casa das Aves Marinhas dos Açores, 3 km from Quinta da Meia Eira, specializes in marine species; the Pedro Miguel Ponds are the best spot for bird watching and species of arrival.

Quinta da Meia Eira is also a refuge for the small birds that inhabit the farms and orchards of our islands. Here, you can see the Azorean Canary (Serinus canaria), the Chaffinch (Fringilla coelebs moreletti), the Wood Pigeon (Columba palumbus azorica), the Azores Starling (Sturnus vulgaris granti), the Azores Blackbird (Turdus merula azorensis) or the Common Buzzard (Buteo buteo rothschildi).
